Daily lifestyle of a typical UB student

Being a student in the University has proven not to be at all an easy task. For those who have several classes from 7am to 7pm, they can bare me witness. For these students with 7am classes, they get up as early as 5:30am to prepare for their first class of the day. Some get up this early so as to have comfortable seats in class.

After the necessary preparations, the student sets for class at about 6:30am and by 6:45 depending on the distance, the student is on campus. Being in school, the story is always different with the presence of friends and other class mates who spice up the morning.

Generally, after the first class which ends at 9am, the student is seen rushing pass the corridors ofthe school to secure a good place in a class for the next lecture of that day which ends at 11. If the classes continue, the student will have to jump from one lecture hall to the other till 7pm when lectures officially end. Interestingly, there exist nothing as break. Lydhan 300 level Accounting student says when the time table is this charged, she always tries to eat something in the morning before coming to school. She equally adds that at about 3pm, she gets cake for FCFA100 in order to maintain some energy for the next classes.

This is just for a student, girl for that matter. Some boys especially go the whole day without any bite due hard moments or even lack of time to sit down and fill the stomach.

With a total of six classes a day, the student leaves school at night very exhausted and hungry looking. The worst of it is when there is no food upon arrival at home for those who live alone. The student due to fatigue generally prefers to drink soaked garri before doing an assignment. By the time the work is over, only one thing keeps sounding in this student’s ear- “sleep”, and he goes to bed. The joy for such a student as he goes to bed may be that the next day, his first lecture begins at 1pm but for some, the next day will be similar to the one just ended. Since recording of attendance is no joking matter in the “place to be”, the student is forced to go through the same stress for another time and the same story continues.
